Enhancing Care Through Evidence-Based Practice

Learning baby massage is a powerful, evidence-based practice that provides a wide range of developmental benefits for babies, while also enriching the quality of care offered by their caregivers.
For early childhood educators, incorporating baby massage into their learning and daily practice can support not only the babies’ development but also the educators’ own sense of wellbeing. Through gentle, rhythmic touch, baby massage promotes healthy physical outcomes such as:
- Improved sleep patterns
- Help settle tummy upsets of wind, colic and constipation
- Digestion
- Circulation
- Muscle tone
- Nurturing neurological and emotional development
- Bonding and attachment
- Permission sequence (learn about appropriate touch)
For educators working with infants and toddlers, incorporating massage into daily routines creates meaningful opportunities to build secure attachments and foster deeper relationships. This practice enhances attunement to each child’s unique cues and rhythms.
Beyond the immediate physical benefits, baby massage helps create a calm, emotionally responsive environment that can reduce stress, support emotional regulation, and encourage more settled behaviour in young children. It also invites educators into reflective, relationship-based practice, enriching their professional capacity to provide individualised, high-quality care.
